Add one, lose one

Richard notified me of the Coal Tit Brian had on the 4th, but I hadn't 'unticked' Lesser Whitethroat off the monthly running total template, which as likely as it is they breed, we never prove it, so it can only remain 'Assumed Present' until proven otherwise.

I also forgot to add Common Gull as possible, as they can turn up on odd dates. Yellow-legged Gull also has to be possible.

Bob had 3 Green Sandpiper today, matching 2009's record of 3 on 11th (TGJ), we then have to go back a while, 3/27th 2004, 3/30th 2002, 2-3 all month 1999, 3/9th 1993, 4/28th, 4/22nd 1992, 5/23rd & 25th. Generally speaking more than 2 is uncommon early in June, but some years passage can get quickly underway by late month.

Looks like we have 14 pairs of terns settling on the shingle island, 2-3 more on the rafts, but still no sign of any young Gadwall.

Let's talk mega's again for fun;

3rd 1992 - Red-Footed Falcon (D Horton et al)...no idea D Horton is, or who et al refers to?
11th 1989 - Marsh Warbler, heard all day Lavell's, few saw it (RTT, DF, TAG, BTB et al)
18th 1983 - 9 Little Tern thru 07:00 (FJC & M Russell)
20th 2012 - Quail heard only (Bill Stacey) then heard once at dusk (TAG, BTB, RNM & GF)
24th 2002 - Honey Buzzard (FJC) thru NE after showers

That's your lot.

  1. Hi Fraser, for your information I used to live in Bourne End and we had a small birding group led by Dave Horton, we used to to visit various locations on a weekly basis, one of which was to Lavells where I spotted the R.F.Falcon, flying first and then perched in a tree. Et al refers to seven of us.Neil Edwards.

  2. Sorry for not commenting before as I rarely see comments. Nice to have some more details, as it was a mystery to all the regulars here, then and now!
